PERIPHERAL DEVICES AND THE USE OF BACKUP EXPLAINED

What are Peripheral devices
ANSWER
Peripheral devices are hardware components that are attached to a computer in order to expand its abilities and perform additional features. They are internal or external devices that connect directly to a computer but do not contribute to the computer's primary function, such as computing. They are not part of the essential computer as are the processor, and the memory. They help end users to access and use the functionalities of a computer by inputting commands, viewing the screen and printing out documents and pictures. Some are mounted in the same case with the main part of the computer like the hard disk drive or CD-ROM drive while other peripherals are outside the computer case, e.g. the printer and image scanner, attached by a wired or wireless connection.
Computer peripherals, or peripheral devices, are sometimes called "I/O devices" because they provide input (keyboard / mouse) and output (monitor / printer) for the computer. Some peripherals, e.g. external hard drives, provide both input and output for the computer. They all require a software called device driver to communicate with the processor.  Device driver acts as a translator, converting general commands from an application into specific commands that the device understands.

Backup is the procedure for making extra copies of data in case the original is lost or damaged. It is the process of copying and archiving of computer data so it may be used to restore the original after a data might have lost.Restore on the other hand means to bring back to its original condition, place or position. To bring back what was lost to its proper /original position or place.

So backup and restore is a feature of Windows Operating System used to backup a computer’s file in case if there should be a data loss in the future time and to return the backed up files, to their original position (back to the computer ). It allows users to create backups and restore from backups.  This feature was depreciated in Windows 8 OS and was completely removed in Windows 8.1 and was replaced with file history.
